I've always loved birthdays, those personalized holidays that allow us to celebrate the loving and wonderful people in our lives. Being a twin, I've always shared my birthday and it's a yearly reminder of the special connection I'll always have to my sister. And of course, birthdays also mean PARTY!!
Springtime for me has always been heralded with the fabulous celebrations I've been lucky enough to share with friends and family. Parties don't have to be extravagant to be memorable, whether it's just a few close friends sipping cocktails on a porch or having a home-cooked dinner with my boys, it's the people that make birthdays special occasions.
Here in Tennessee, it's tradition that Mother Nature puts on all her resplendent colors to join me in celebration! Flowers bloom in every tree and garden, birds fill the air with song, and the lush grass ripples in the sunshine just begging everyone to come outside! I'm extremely lucky to have this beautiful season for my birthday month and I take advantage of it as much as possible.

And here's a couple of Birthday Cocktails for y'all!
Of course I love margaritas - in fact, they're my favorite go-to cocktail. But when it comes time to celebrate, I feel the need to dress them up just a bit. Enter that magnificent elixir called St. Germain. An elderflower liqueur from France, it adds extra pizzaz to virtually any cocktail!
2 oz good quality blanco tequila
.5 oz triple sec
.5 oz St. Germain elderflower liqueur
.5 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
Combine everything in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake it like your life depended on it for about 15-20 seconds. When finished, strain into a glass with fresh ice and lime wedge.
Rum is to Cuba what sparkles are to Betty Badd! Seriously though, my Cuban heritage is important to me and always seems extra essential around the time of my birthday. This boozy little number gets some added sex-appeal through the addition of chocolate in the form of Creme de Cacao and vanilla with Licor 43 from Spain.
1.5 oz aged Cuban rum (Cuban-style rum will do)
1 oz Licor 43
.5 oz creme de cacao
.5 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
Combine everything in a shaker with ice and shake to chill. Strain into a glass with fresh ice, garnish and serve.
