NYC Trip, Part 2

NYC Trip.jpg

Mentioned in my previous blog, I do all my sourcing in New York City. There is so much that goes into every piece of Betty Badd Couture, but it always starts with a trip to NYC to source and discover the newest, best and most unique elements. The creativity that comes from these trips is limitless. I’m fortunate to have been in this industry so long that I have great relationships with many vendors there. When new inventory arrives, they notify me right away... and I’m on a plane before you can say “sparkle!”

You always want to be able to be fashionable but functional. Accessories and key clothing items should be something that takes you from day to night. In NYC, I am able to visit specialty vendors in the Fashion District, Diamond District and more – each of which helps provide the best possible inspiration to help me create new releases for Betty Badd Couture. Just imagine walking into a large space, filled corner to corner with strands of precious stones from around the world. It’s pure heaven!

While I love sourcing in NYC, it can be quite exhausting when you’re running around in the freezing temperatures carrying dozens of bags filled with heavy beads and chain. Luckily, I’ve made the trip enough to know to bring flat shoes. I say “flat shoes by day, highest heels by night!” And better yet, after all the hustle and bustle, I know that I get to go back home to Nashville to my family and my studio!

Pretty soon, I will get to go back to NYC meet with Joseph, my pattern maker, as well as buy new fabric for the new shirts I’m making. Make sure you sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know when my designs are available!

Love Always,

NYC Trip, Part 1

From Nashville to NYC!

Betty in NYC.jpg

For the past 10 years, I have taken a trip to New York at least once a month. I love New York! It’s absolutely invigorating and inspiring. This is where I source raw goods for my business. The great thing about the city is there isn’t just one bead store, there are hundreds! It allows you to be open-minded with your creativity because your options are limitless. I always have a fresh idea when I come home. There is nothing like New York.

I had a blast catching up with old friends, enjoying the city, meeting new people, and taking care of business. The night I arrived, I didn’t have much time to enjoy the city due to work. I did take the time to check out the billboard for Private Lives of Nashville Wives. We were riding through Times Square when Nitta my assistant shouted, “look!! It’s you, Betty!” It was such an overwhelming feeling to see myself on a billboard in Times Square!

Reality began to sink in for me seeing the billboard in NYC. I’m not use to being in the limelight. I’ve always been the one behind the scenes. And now I’m about to be on national TV? I can’t even wrap my head around it. It’s such a different dynamic than what I’m used to.

So after countless trips to NYC, I must admit this one had to be the most memorable. After all, my face is plastered in Times Square!

Love Always,

B
