Betty Malo, Founder and Chief Designer
Visual artist Betty Malo brings a Cuban flair and rock-and-roll style to the celebrity-beloved accessories and clothing line Betty Badd Couture. A celebrated painter known for her unique use of gold and silver gilding on her canvasses, Betty is the creative force behind the company’s red-carpet friendly collection of accessories and signature apparel.
The wife of Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Raul Malo, Betty launched the line in 2004 based on her own need for glamorous yet practical accessories that matched her life in the limelight. She found immediate success with her intricately detailed wallets, hip chains, belts and cuffs, applying her expertise working with metals and precious stones to the creation of one-of-a-kind leather accessories hand gilded in 24k gold and sterling silver.
A Cuban-American born and raised in Miami, Betty draws inspiration for the line from the lavish culture of 1950’s Havana and her own fine arts training. In just 4 years, she has grown the company from a one-person operation to a thriving business with over 50 accounts at top boutiques in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, San Francisco and Nashville. Betty’s exceptional style and artistic vision have also enabled the line to build an A-list following with Jamie Foxx, Keith Urban, Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus, Big Boi and Dre from Outkast and Sheryl Crow among her celebrity fans.
The Betty Badd name comes from Betty’s own last name Malo, which means “bad” in Spanish. She lives in Nashville with her husband Raul and their three sons.
